Boko Haram insurgents have killed one Pastor Luka Levong of the Church of Christ In Nations (COCIN) in Kwari, Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe state, along with five others.
At 2am on Friday, assailants targeted Pastor Levong, church treasurer Maina Abdullahi, and others in a violent attack on the community.
The attackers killed their victims in separate houses before security forces arrived. Multiple houses, a church, and vehicles were set ablaze.
Geidam, the location of the attack, is 177 kilometres from Damaturu, the state capital, and approximately 40 kilometres from the Nigeria/Niger Republic border.
This incident follows a recent Boko Haram attack in a neighbouring Yobe State community, where 12 people were killed and two others injured in the Gartamawa area of Chibok Local Government Area, situated 125 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Since the emergence of the Boko Haram insurgency in 2009, over 40,000 individuals have lost their lives, and more than two million have been forced to flee their homes.
The insurgency has extended into Chad, Niger, and Cameroon, leading to the establishment of a regional military force to combat the militants.
