The Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board (BSUPDB) has announced a ban on street hawking and other unauthorized activities within Maiduguri metropolis. In a statement issued on Friday, the General Manager, Mr. Limán Mustapha, said the move aligns with the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Law of 2002 and aims to maintain a clean and orderly urban environment.
The ban specifically targets street hawking, tricycle operations, and generator mechanics around the Post Office and Monday Market areas. Additionally, activities on pedestrian walkways, junctions, and roundabouts, as well as the sale of engine oil, dumping of sand or building materials, and mixing of cement on roads, have been prohibited. Construction of boreholes by roadsides is also included in the directive.
Mr. Mustapha urged those occupying affected sites to vacate immediately, warning that defaulters would face arrest and prosecution. He emphasized that the measures are necessary to ensure the safety and organization of Maiduguri and its surroundings.
Residents and business owners were called upon to comply with the new regulations to avoid legal consequences. The BSUPDB assured the public of its commitment to fostering a clean, safe, and structured urban environment.
