Catholic Diocese of Auchi Announces Release of Kidnapped Priest Rev. Fr. Thomas Oyode

The Catholic Diocese of Auchi has confirmed the release of Rev. Fr. Thomas Oyode, who was kidnapped on October 27, 2024, during an attack on the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Edo State. The priest was freed by his abductors around 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, in a village near Ajaokuta, Kogi State.

Rev. Fr. Peter Egielewa, the Director of Communications for the Diocese, shared the news in a statement and expressed gratitude for the prayers and moral support received from the faithful during the eleven days of captivity. The Diocese’s Bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Dunia, also used the opportunity to urge all levels of government to take action against the worsening security situation in Edo North Senatorial District and Edo State. He called for measures to restore peace, ensuring the safety of the community, farmers, and travelers.
