The vibrant scene at Mapo Hall was the perfect backdrop for the coronation of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland. The venue was a hive of activity, with a palatial stage, rhythmic drum beats, colorful outfits, and shots from Dane guns setting the festive mood.

Anxious onlookers, drink vendors, and elaborate decorations filled the area. Busy roads, bystanders, massive projector screens, and a heavy security presence added to the vibrant atmosphere. Canopies and tents of various types, shapes, and sizes were also in place to accommodate the large crowd.

The highly anticipated event began with the official opening of the ultramodern Olubadan Palace at Oke Aremo, Ibadan. Although the weather initially appeared cloudy, it began to clear up, with signs of the sun emerging, brightening the celebratory day.

In related news, it was reported that markets and shops in the capital city did not open for business, adhering to a directive from the state market leadership to close between 7 am and 2 pm in honor of the new Olubadan.

Despite initial weather concerns, dignitaries started arriving at the venue for this historic event. The list of prominent individuals already seated included the Oyo state Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal; Ondo state Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami; the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar; and the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta, Alhaji Dawud Makanjuola.

Traditional rulers from within and outside the state, community leaders, prominent indigenes of the state, and top government functionaries were among those in attendance, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Olubadan-designate and the Governor for the official commencement of the coronation ceremony.
