Court Approves Virtual Testimony for Emefiele’s Trial Witnesses

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama has granted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) permission to present two witnesses virtually in the ongoing trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele. The witnesses, currently abroad, will testify via video link.

Justice Maryanne Anenih approved the EFCC’s request on Thursday, allowing the prosecution to field the witnesses in Emefiele’s trial, which includes charges of unlawful printing of new naira notes, among other allegations.

The court has adjourned the case to October 17 for the continuation of the trial. The EFCC's fourth witness, Edward Adamu, a former CBN Deputy Governor, Corporate Services, concluded his testimony during the previous session.

At the hearing, EFCC counsel A. O. Mohammed informed the court that the two upcoming witnesses are currently residing in the United States of America (USA).
