Court Grants Request to Shield Witnesses in Nnamdi Kanu’s Terrorism Trial, Amid Heightened Security Concerns

In a significant development in the ongoing terrorism trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the self-proclaimed leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the prosecution's request to shield the identities of its witnesses.

The ruling, issued by Justice James Omotosho on Tuesday, follows an ex-parte application filed by the prosecuting lawyer, Adegboyega Solomon (SAN). The request, based on security concerns, argued that the identities of the witnesses must be protected due to the terrorism-related nature of the case.

Solomon emphasized the necessity of shielding the witnesses for their safety, given the sensitive nature of the charges against Kanu. While defence counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN), did not object to the application, he requested similar cooperation from the prosecution in the future, particularly during the consideration of Kanu's bail application.

The prosecution has already initiated its case, with its first witness, identified as PWAAA, currently testifying in court.
