EFCC

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, revealed on Monday that court orders have obstructed the commission from investigating corruption cases in 10 states. He called for closer collaboration between the judiciary and the EFCC to combat corruption effectively.

Speaking at the 6th EFCC/National Judicial Institute capacity-building workshop in Abuja, themed *"Integrating Stakeholders in Curbing Economic and Financial Crimes,"* Olukoyede expressed frustration over frequent adjournments of high-profile cases and conflicting court orders that hinder the commission’s work. He emphasized the need for urgent reforms to address these challenges.

Olukoyede also criticized the increasing trend of suspects securing injunctions to prevent the EFCC from investigating or arresting them. He stated that despite clear rulings from appellate courts affirming the EFCC's statutory powers, investigations in 10 states have been stalled by such court orders.

He urged judicial officers to collaborate with the EFCC in ensuring the swift resolution of corruption cases, stressing that a committed and courageous judiciary is essential for the agency to succeed in its mission.
