Court Reinstates Phillip Shuaibu as Deputy Governor of Edo State

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has voided the impeachment of Phillip Shuaibu as Deputy Governor of Edo State. In his judgment on Wednesday, Justice Omotosho ruled that the Edo State House of Assembly did not follow due process in Shuaibu's impeachment, rendering the action invalid.

Justice Omotosho ordered Shuaibu's immediate reinstatement, stating that the appointment of a new Deputy Governor to replace him was also nullified. The court found that the allegations used to justify the impeachment did not amount to gross misconduct and were legally untenable.
