In a landmark ruling, a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has sentenced Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of late gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, to death by hanging. The court found Nwachukwu guilty of culpable homicide in the tragic case that has drawn national attention.
Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme, who presided over the case, handed down the death sentence after concluding that Nwachukwu's actions led directly to the untimely death of his wife. In addition to the death penalty, the court also imposed further prison sentences and fines for other charges related to the abuse and mistreatment that led to Osinachi's demise.
The case has reignited conversations about domestic violence and the need for stronger legal protections for women in abusive relationships.
