A coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) has lodged a formal complaint with the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, and the House of Representatives Committee on Human Rights regarding the recent altercation at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters. The incident involved protesters supporting former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello.

The petition recounts how EFCC operatives prevented demonstrators from entering the premises to show solidarity with Bello, who is facing corruption allegations. The protesters, initially anti-Bello, were later joined by pro-Bello demonstrators, leading to a tense standoff.

The CSOs' petition, co-signed by Dr. Clement Nduka and Richard Otitoleke, calls for a thorough investigation into the incident and recommends punitive measures for those found responsible. They also request that the EFCC chairman, Ola Olukoyede, appear before the committees to address the issue.

Furthermore, the CSOs demand that journalists who were victims of the alleged attack, as well as the drivers of vehicles damaged during the altercation, be invited to provide their accounts. They also urge the committees to consider actions that promote justice, fairness, and the rule of law in the matter.
