The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has paid tribute to the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, describing him as an astute leader whose dedication to Nigeria’s security was unparalleled. In a statement by NCS spokesman Abdullahi Maiwada, Adeniyi highlighted Lagbaja’s invaluable contributions to inter-agency cooperation and national defense.
Adeniyi extended his condolences to Lagbaja’s family, colleagues, and the Nigerian Armed Forces, noting that his passing was a significant loss to the nation. In solidarity, the NCS has postponed its Gala and Award Night, originally slated for Friday in Abuja as part of the CGC Conference, to honor the late military leader.
“This decision reflects our identification with the mood of the nation in mourning Lagbaja. We acknowledge the weight of this moment and join all Nigerians in grieving a steadfast leader,” Adeniyi stated.
The late Chief of Army Staff passed away on November 5 in Lagos following a brief illness. His remains were flown to Abuja on Thursday ahead of his burial on Friday, marking the final farewell to a decorated and committed servant of the nation.
