The Dangote Refinery has begun exporting Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) to Cameroon, Angola, Ghana, and South Africa, marking a significant milestone for Nigeria’s oil industry. Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, Devakumar Edwin, revealed this during a visit by the Japanese Business Community in Nigeria, led by Japan’s Ambassador-designate, Suzuki Hideo. Edwin emphasized that the refinery’s products, including diesel and jet fuel, meet international standards and are gaining recognition in European and global markets.
Edwin described the refinery as a testament to Nigerian ingenuity, built entirely by Nigerian talent under the vision of Aliko Dangote. He noted that the facility incorporates cutting-edge technology to meet the highest industry standards and operates as the world’s largest single-train refinery complex. “Our goal is to drive industrial development, generate employment, and enhance Nigeria’s economic prosperity by leveraging Africa’s crude oil resources to produce refined products locally,” Edwin stated.
The Japanese delegation hailed the refinery as a technological masterpiece that reinforces Nigeria’s position as Africa’s gateway to global markets. Managing Director of the Japan External Trade Organisation, Takashi Oku, commended the facility’s vastness and innovation, describing it as a symbol of Nigeria’s advancing technological prowess. Similarly, Masahiro Tsuno, Managing Director of Itochu Nigeria Limited, called the refinery a “miracle” and expressed interest in collaborations across sectors, particularly polypropylene and other petroleum products.
With its petrochemical expansion, the refinery aims to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported polypropylene while creating substantial value for downstream industries. The Dangote Group’s strategic vision highlights Africa’s capacity to lead in energy production, economic growth, and technological innovation, earning the admiration of international stakeholders and boosting Nigeria’s profile on the global stage.
