Defence Headquarters: Troops Kill 253 Terrorists, Arrest 172 Criminals, and Rescue 206 Kidnap Victims in Nationwide Operations Over the Past Week

The Defence Headquarters announced that troops killed 253 terrorists, arrested 172 criminals, and rescued 206 kidnap victims in operations across the country over the past week. Major-General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, shared these updates in a statement on Friday, May 24.

Troops recovered 251 assorted weapons and 4,113 rounds of ammunition from terrorists and other criminals. The seized weapons included one GPMG, 118 AK47 rifles, 54 locally fabricated guns, 47 dane guns, six pump action guns, two locally fabricated pump action guns, five double-barrel guns, four single-barrel guns, four locally fabricated pistols, four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), a 60mm mortar tube, two AK butts, an MRAP, and one bandolier. Additionally, ammunition recovered included 2,047 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 942 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, and various other calibers. Other items seized included 32 magazines, two baofeng radios, two KYD radios, eight vehicles, 41 motorcycles, 27 bicycles, 41 mobile phones, and N74,702,320 in cash.

In the Niger Delta region, Operation Delta Safe (OPDS) troops destroyed 75 illegal refining sites, recovered 1,047,050 liters of stolen crude oil, and 205,550 liters of illegally refined diesel. The troops also dismantled 22 dugout pits, 37 boats, 70 drums, four receivers, four reservoirs, 29 storage tanks, and arrested 15 oil thieves.

Major-General Buba emphasized the military's relentless efforts to prevent anarchy, unrest, and threats to national security, highlighting the armed forces as a symbol of national unity and resilience. He urged citizens to respect and support the military, noting that undermining the institution would be counterproductive and amount to self-sabotage.

These operations underscore the military's dedication to maintaining peace and security across Nigeria, demonstrating their capability and commitment to safeguarding the nation.
