The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, has called for an investigation into the denial of Canadian visas to Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, and other senior military officials. The delegation was set to attend an event in Canada honoring Nigerian veterans.
Matawalle condemned the visa denial, describing it as an affront to Nigeria’s dignity and a threat to bilateral relations with Canada. In a statement issued by Iyogun Sunday on behalf of the Director of Information and Public Relations, the minister emphasized the need for a thorough probe into the incident and urged the Federal Government to assert Nigeria’s global standing.
“This is not merely a bureaucratic issue; it is a serious affront to our national integrity,” Matawalle stated. “If no satisfactory explanation is provided, Nigeria must be prepared to respond assertively.”
The visa denial highlights broader diplomatic challenges faced by Nigerian officials abroad. Matawalle reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to upholding its dignity on the international stage and urged collective action to prevent future occurrences.
