Ebonyi Police Deny Reports of Killings Over Land Dispute

The Ebonyi State Police Command has refuted claims of two people being killed in a renewed land dispute between Umuobor in Akaeze and Ogwor in Ishiagu, located in Ivo Local Government Area.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, Police Spokesman, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed that the command has not received any formal report regarding the alleged incident.

Ukandu explained that while the land dispute between the two communities has been ongoing, the police have not been notified of any fatalities from the recent conflict.

The land dispute has a long history, with previous clashes leading to the loss of many lives and the destruction of properties worth billions of naira. To address the crisis, Governor Francis Nwifuru had earlier declared the disputed area a buffer zone and set up a committee aimed at finding a lasting resolution to the conflict.
