Activities came to a halt in Ebonyi on Thursday as residents adhered to the sit-at-home order issued by the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Banks, schools, offices, businesses, eateries, shopping malls, and markets remained closed, according to The Nation's monitoring of the situation.
The usually busy roads were nearly empty, with only a few private cars seen. Parks were also shut down, reflecting the widespread compliance with the order.
Despite the shutdown, a few commercial motorcyclists and tricyclists operated around the city center. They appeared to be emboldened by the heavy presence of security personnel wielding machine guns and moving around in convoys.
The significant security presence likely contributed to maintaining order during the sit-at-home directive, but the overall compliance resulted in a near-total standstill of daily activities in the state.
