Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has paid tribute to the late Andrew Omotor, a firefighter who tragically lost his life while responding to a distress call. In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the governor, represented by Head of Service Anthony Okungbowa, visited the grieving family in Benin City on Monday alongside top government officials.

Okungbowa described Omotor as a courageous and dedicated firefighter who selflessly served the state. The 45-year-old left behind a wife, six children, and an elderly mother, all struggling with the loss of their breadwinner. Another firefighter injured during the incident is receiving treatment at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.

“This tragic loss deeply saddens the governor, who plans to personally visit the family to offer support. Omotor’s bravery and sacrifice in protecting lives and properties will always be remembered,” Okungbowa said during the visit.

The governor assured the family of assistance to help them navigate this difficult time, emphasizing that Omotor's heroism will not be forgotten. The visit marked the beginning of the state government’s commitment to easing the family’s burden.
