Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State dissolved his cabinet over the weekend in a final session at Government House, Benin, ahead of handing over to Governor-elect Senator Monday Okpebholo. The State Executive Council’s dissolution for the 2020-2024 term was initiated by Deputy Governor Godwins Omobayo and seconded by Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning Osilama Okuofu. In his remarks, Obaseki commended the council for its role in achieving his administration's vision of economic expansion and improved quality of life for Edo residents.

At the valedictory session, Obaseki expressed heartfelt gratitude to Edo citizens for their support throughout his eight-year tenure, while council members praised the governor’s achievements in sectors across the state. The session concluded with a dinner in Obaseki's honor, where outgoing officials presented awards and gifts.

Meanwhile, Governor-elect Okpebholo, in preparation for his November 12 inauguration, conducted rehearsals with security and paramilitary personnel. Obaseki, however, voiced concerns about the APC-led inauguration, stating he was not invited to the event, which he called “lawless” and lacking state government involvement. He criticized the APC for sidelining his administration in the inauguration process, describing it as a deviation from constitutional norms.
