Edo State Deputy Governor Probe Panel to Begin Sitting on April 3rd

The panel, appointed by Edo State Chief Judge Justice Daniel Okungbowa to investigate allegations against Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, is set to commence proceedings on April 3. George Odidi, the panel's Administrative Secretary, announced that the hearings would take place at the Judges' Conference Room in the New High Court Complex in Benin.

Odidi emphasized that all concerned parties or their representatives must be present, with the complainant prepared to present their case. Justice Okungbowa recently reconstituted the seven-member panel after two members, Professors Violet Aigbokhaebo and Boniface Onomion Edegbai, withdrew from the initial committee formed on March 22 to investigate the allegations outlined in the March 6, 2024 impeachment notice by the 24-member House of Assembly.

The Chief Registrar of Edo High Court, Mr. B. O. Osawaru, announced the reconstitution of the panel in accordance with Section 188 (5) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended). The panel, still headed by Justice S.A. Omonua (rtd.), includes Prof. Theresa Akpoghome, Oghogho Ayodele Oviasu, Dr. Andrew Oliha, Idris Abdulkareen, President Aighokhian, and Mariam Erakhoba Ilavbare as members.
