The Edo State government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) engaged in a heated exchange on Wednesday, accusing each other of underhanded tactics ahead of the September 21 governorship election. The state government accused the APC of planning violent protests instead of campaigning, claiming the party lacks a viable candidate. The government also criticized APC leader Senator Adams Oshiomhole for allegedly spreading falsehoods on national television.
Chris Nehikhare, Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, alongside Governor Obaseki’s media adviser, Crusoe Osagie, called on security agencies to monitor the APC closely. They challenged the APC’s governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to a public debate, accusing the party of resorting to chaos due to their weak candidate.
In response, Orobosa Omo-Ojo, Director of Publicity for the APC Governorship Campaign Council, accused Governor Obaseki's administration of deceit and of being haunted by their alleged sponsorship of the #EndBadGovernance protests in the state. He claimed that Obaseki’s administration is trying to cover up economic corruption and urged Edo people to reject the PDP in the upcoming election.
The exchange highlights the escalating tensions between the two parties as they prepare for the governorship poll, with both sides making serious accusations and calling for vigilance from the public and security forces.
