Equatorial Guinea Launches Probe into Civil Servant’s Alleged Sex Scandal, Implements Security Measures

Equatorial Guinea

The government of Equatorial Guinea has initiated an investigation into hundreds of leaked pornographic videos allegedly involving Baltasar Engonga, Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency. The videos purportedly depict Engonga engaging in sexual acts with various women, including wives of high-profile officials, leading to widespread scandal and public backlash.

In response, the government has ordered the installation of surveillance cameras in ministries and judicial offices to deter "indecent and illicit acts." A statement from the Press and Information Office on Tuesday confirmed that officials implicated in the scandal have been suspended, with further sanctions possible. Vice-President Teodoro Mangue emphasized that any official found to have violated workplace conduct policies by engaging in sexual activities would face disciplinary action.

The videos surfaced during a fraud investigation against the 54-year-old economist. Authorities reportedly uncovered over 400 recordings during a search of Engonga's residence and office, with the tapes allegedly involving wives of prominent figures, including the Director-General of Police’s wife, a minister’s wife, and even a close family member of the President of Equatorial Guinea.

The leaked tapes have caused a stir on social media, marking what many describe as the most extensive sex scandal in the country’s history.
