The immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has once again appeared before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of misappropriation of public funds during his tenure.
A statement from Bello's media office confirmed his attendance at the EFCC office on Tuesday morning, accompanied by his legal team. This followed the recent Supreme Court ruling that upheld the constitutionality of the EFCC's operations, effectively dismissing states' challenges against the anti-graft agency.
Bello, who reportedly drove himself in a black Hilux, has maintained his willingness to cooperate with the investigation.
Meanwhile, youth leaders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) have alleged that internal party stalwarts may be behind Bello's current legal troubles, describing his ordeal as politically motivated.
At the last hearing on November 14, the EFCC requested an adjournment to November 27, citing the 30-day window for responding to the summons previously issued in the case.
The outcome of the investigation could have significant implications for Bello's political career and the anti-corruption stance of the current administration.
