Prince Mathew Kolawole, the immediate past Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, has called for patience with President Bola Tinubu, stating that the president inherited a “rotten economic system” and needs time to implement the necessary reforms. Speaking in an interview in Lokoja on Sunday, Kolawole acknowledged the harsh effects of the ongoing economic changes but expressed confidence that they would lead to long-term national prosperity.
Kolawole also addressed the recent face-off between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello. He described Bello's ordeal as unfortunate, given his significant contributions to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his loyalty to the party during the 2023 general election. Kolawole argued that Bello’s current challenges may stem from political rivalry rather than genuine wrongdoing.
Reflecting on Tinubu’s first year in office, Kolawole praised the administration’s efforts, emphasizing that the ongoing reforms are part of a broader roadmap to stabilize the nation. He highlighted progress in various sectors but acknowledged the public’s concerns about rising petroleum and electricity costs, assuring that relief would come soon as the reforms take full effect.
Kolawole further commended Bello’s role in mobilizing youth support for the APC during the election and warned against undermining growing politicians for personal gain. He urged Nigerians to continue supporting Tinubu, confident that the president’s policies would yield positive results in due time.
