An explosion rocked the Secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, early Monday morning, sparking panic among party members. The blast, which occurred around 1 a.m. at the party's state office located along the GRA axis, is believed to have been caused by a detonated dynamite, shattering windows, doors, and damaging the building's ceiling and fittings.
Though the culprits behind the explosion remain unidentified, the incident is suspected to be linked to the ongoing leadership crisis within the state. Reports suggest that the blast was the work of political thugs targeting the fast-growing APP, which has recently been gaining traction in Rivers State.
The explosion has heightened tensions, especially as rumors circulate that Governor Siminialayi Fubara may be planning to defect to the APP with his supporters, following allegations that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has been hijacked by his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
A member of the APP, identified as Chimene, confirmed the attack, stating, "This is politically motivated. They know that the APP is a fast-growing political party in the state." He called on the police to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
