Fake American Sentenced to 5 Years for Impersonation and Fraud

Justice A. A. Isiaka of the Kaduna State High Court has sentenced Stephen Thomas, a fake American, to five years in prison for impersonating an American citizen, Rolanda Collins, on Facebook and cheating an American, Kate Stewarton, of $100. Thomas, also known as Rolanda Collins, pleaded guilty to the charge brought by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the EFCC.

He was convicted under Section 308 and punishable under Section 309 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law 2017. In addition to the prison sentence, Thomas was ordered to pay a fine of N150,000. He also forfeited his Infinix X mobile phone and the $100 to the Federal Government.

In a separate case, Bashiru Adamu was arraigned before Justices Isiaka and Hawau Buhari of the Federal High Court for failing to declare his assets, criminal breach of trust, and falsely obtaining N25 million from Brig.-Gen. J. A. Faransa (rtd.). Adamu allegedly obtained the sum by falsely promising to deliver a Toyota Hilux vehicle to the retired general.

Yushau Mohammed Ahmed was also arraigned for failing to fully disclose his assets. He was charged with knowingly failing to make full disclosure of all his assets and properties when completing the Declaration of Assets Form. Both Adamu and Ahmed pleaded not guilty to their charges and were remanded in a Correctional Centre pending trial.
