The families of the late Aransi Lasisi, the late John Durolaje, and octogenarian Michael Ayedun have written to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu regarding a land encroachment case involving a top official and three families. These families are the owners of properties located at Nos. 30, 32, and 34 Ifelodun Street, Aluminum Village Dopemu, Agege, Lagos State.
According to Oluwaseyi Lasisi, a spokesperson and son of one of the deceased, the encroacher has had property on the street for decades but illegally erected shops that encroach on the plots belonging to the three families. Despite being asked by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development to provide documents substantiating his claim to the land, the encroacher failed to do so after four invitations.
Following this, the ministry demolished the illegally erected shops on December 21, 2023. The three owners were advised by the ministry to erect a perimeter fence to protect their properties from further encroachment. However, the encroacher allegedly marked the fence with "Stop Work," falsely implying government intervention. The ministry denied any involvement in this action. Despite reporting the issue to the Alabo Police Station, the encroacher continued to send hoodlums to harass the occupants.
Lasisi appealed to Governor Sanwo-Olu, the police, the ministry, and other relevant authorities to intervene and prevent a breakdown of law and order. He expressed concern that the encroacher was still sending hoodlums to harass the residents in an attempt to rebuild the shops.
