The family of the late transporter, Ajayi Michael, is demanding justice following his alleged murder by a notorious land grabber in Alimosho, Lagos State. In a petition to Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sylvester Alabi, the family insists that the perpetrators must face the consequences of their actions.
The incident occurred on April 16 when thugs, reportedly led by the land grabber, attacked members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Iyana-Ipaja over control of the bus terminus. This attack came after the Chair of Alimosho LCDA, Sulaiman Jelili, redirected the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) collection from the land grabber to another contractor. In retaliation, the land grabber allegedly orchestrated an attack on the new contractor, resulting in Michael's tragic death and leaving others injured.
Despite the gravity of the situation, the police reportedly arrested and later released Jelili, the NURTW Chair in Iyana-Ipaja, Adedayo Omotolani, the alleged killer, and their accomplices. The family, through their lawyer, has called on the DIG Office to intervene and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
Residents have also expressed concerns about the land grabber's activities, alleging that he uses fake documents to claim land and extort money from residents. They describe a history of harassment and violence, noting that even with valid documents, the land grabber continues to cause trouble. The family and residents alike are pleading for the authorities to take action and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
