Fatal Accident in Sokoto Deputy Governor’s Convoy Claims Two Lives

An accident involving the convoy of the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Idris Mohammed Gobir, left two persons killed on Wednesday night, according to the Nigeria Police.

The accident occurred as Idris Mohammed Gobir, the deputy governor, and state governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto were leading other party members from Sabon Birni as part of their official duties.

But in an interview with media, Ahmed Rufa'i, the spokesman for the Sokoto State Police Command, confirmed the event and said it involved a pilot car in the deputy governor's convoy.

The Police spokesperson said that two persons who died in the accident were a police officer and a photographer.

He said, “The incident involved a pilot vehicle in the convoy of the deputy governor and the driver of the vehicle who is a police officer was confirmed dead together with a photographer in the convoy.

“The injured persons are already receiving treatment at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital here in Sokoto.

“The incident happened on their way back from Sabon Birni Local Government Area to Sokoto.”
