Fatal Collision in Kogi Claims 14 Lives in Tragic Bus Accident

A tragic head-on collision between two Toyota buses in Kogi on Sunday claimed the lives of at least 14 individuals, according to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). The incident, which occurred at Aloma community in Ofu Local Government Area of the state, left 13 others injured.

An eyewitness recounted that the collision involved a Toyota Sienna bus traveling from Abuja to Port Harcourt and a Toyota Hiace bus heading towards the southern part of the country. Thirteen individuals, including the Hiace bus driver, were engulfed in flames immediately after the collision, resulting in their tragic deaths. One of the four surviving passengers later succumbed to injuries in the hospital, bringing the total fatalities to 14.

Although all ten occupants of the Sienna bus survived the collision, they sustained severe injuries and are currently undergoing treatment in a nearby hospital. The swift response of villagers who rushed to the scene of the accident helped rescue the injured and prevent further casualties. The eyewitness attributed the cause of the accident to speeding and road potholes.

Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, the Kogi Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the incident when contacted. The rescue operation, which lasted three hours, included efforts to extricate the Sienna bus driver, whose legs were severely injured.
