Fatal Cult Clash Claims Two Lives in Abeokuta

Abeokuta

Two individuals lost their lives in a tragic cult clash that erupted in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, on Sunday. The deceased, purportedly members of rival Eiye and Aye confraternity groups, were fatally shot in different locations across the city.

Reports suggest that the violence was in retaliation for the killing of Olumide Ifeoluwa, a well-known figure in the area and a member of the Aye confraternity, who was gunned down by suspected Eiye cultists three weeks prior. The first victim, allegedly affiliated with the Eiye cult, was shot at Alogi junction in the Obantoko area, while the second victim, identified as Timo Olukayode and associated with the Aye confraternity, was shot and had his head smashed with a stone in Bode-Olude.

Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident, stating that Olukayode's body was taken to the State Hospital's morgue in Ijaiye. She recounted, "The DPO received information around 1300hrs that an unknown man was being chased by suspected cultists. He was chased to the Dopamu backstreet via Bode Olude to Miliki intersection down to Elega."

Following the tragedy, a police team led by DPO Adatan and DPO Elega visited the scene and found the lifeless body of a young man with his head fatally injured. The police swiftly intervened, moving his body to the Ijaiye Hospital mortuary. The State's Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has initiated a thorough investigation into the incident, and efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible for the violence.
