The All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) voiced their dissatisfaction with the recent appointments made by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, accusing him of favoring his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyalists over APC members. They expressed their concerns at a media parley held at the Nigerian Union of Journalists secretariat in Abuja, calling on President Bola Tinubu to intervene before Wike undermines the APC's political structure in the capital.
Wike has faced criticism for appointing PDP members, including former PDP officials, to key positions since taking office. The appointments, such as Chidi Amadi as Chief of Staff, Felix Obuah as Coordinator of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, and others, have sparked discontent among APC members, particularly FCT indigenes.
Abdulwahab Ekekhide, an APC chieftain in the FCT, criticized Wike's appointments as biased and disrespectful to the FCT APC members who contributed to President Buhari's electoral success. Ekekhide called on President Tinubu to intervene, warning that Wike's actions could jeopardize APC's electoral prospects in the FCT.
Isaac David, the APC Youth Leader in the FCT, threatened to withdraw support for President Buhari if Wike continued to sideline party members. He highlighted the irony of Wike and PDP loyalists receiving appointments in the FCT despite not having their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) registered there, while local APC members are neglected.
