The six area council chairmen of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are set to be grilled by the House of Representatives next week over their expenditure. The chairmen will appear before the House Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters after failing to respond to several previous invitations.

Committee Chairman Hon. Fred Agbedi, during a hearing attended by Minister of State for FCT Mariya Mahmud and the six chairmen, expressed displeasure at their repeated absences. He criticized their actions as contemptuous and emphasized the need for accountability in public service.

Both Mahmud and Kwali Area Council Chairman Danladi Chia apologized for the missed invitations and assured future cooperation. A schedule provided by the Clerk of the Committee outlined that the hearings will commence on July 23, 2024, with Abaji Area Council, followed by Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali, and AMAC.

Agbedi noted that the investigative hearings were adjourned due to the demise of Hon. Ekene Adams, a House member from Kaduna State. Previously, the Committee had threatened to halt budgetary allocations to the FCT over the chairmen's and related agencies' refusal to attend prior sessions.
