FCT Minister Wike Urges Residents to Avoid Planned Protest

Protest

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has advised residents not to partake in the planned protest by some sections of Nigerians. Wike made this appeal during an interaction with residents after inspecting the ongoing construction of Saburi Road in Abuja on Thursday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some Nigerians are planning a peaceful protest starting on August 1 to address hunger and insecurity in the country. However, Wike assured residents that President Bola Tinubu is aware of these issues and is actively working to resolve them, describing the current hardship as a temporary situation.

Wike claimed that the protest is politically motivated to destabilize Tinubu’s administration. He urged Nigerians to be patient and not join the protest, emphasizing that it would not solve the country's problems. "The government is aware of the hunger, and that is why it is working hard to find a lasting solution," Wike said.

In response to residents' requests for a police station and health facility in Saburi, Wike assured them of the government's commitment to addressing their needs. He promised the construction of a police station, while Abuja Municipal Area Council Chairman, Mr. Christopher Maikalangu, pledged to build a health facility. Wike also confirmed that the ongoing road project in the community would be completed on schedule.
