In a coordinated effort against criminal activities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), operatives of the FCT Police Command, in collaboration with the special forces of the Guards Brigade, the Department of State Service (DSS), and local hunters, successfully arrested four suspected kidnappers over the weekend.
Among the arrested individuals were two ex-convicts. Acting on credible intelligence, the security operatives stormed identified kidnapper camps at Gidan Dogo and Kweti Forest in Kaduna State, which borders the FCT. The suspects, whose ages range between 20 and 35 years, were apprehended during the operation.
In a statement issued on Sunday, June 9, FCT Police Public Relations Officer Josephine Adeh revealed that the suspects confessed to being members of a notorious bandit syndicate known as "Mai One Million." This group is responsible for multiple kidnappings and other serious crimes in the FCT and surrounding areas.
The operation led to a shootout between the bandits and the security operatives, causing the suspects to flee. During the raid, the security team dismantled illegally erected structures used by the kidnappers. The rescued victims were safely reunited with their families.
FCT Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh praised the security operatives for their dedication and effectiveness in combating criminality in the nation's capital. He reaffirmed the command's unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of FCT residents.
