FCT Police Deploy 4,200 Officers Ahead of August 1 Protest

In preparation for the nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the deployment of 4,200 officers to maintain public safety. The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that the deployment aims to protect protesters and prevent the protests from being hijacked by non-state actors.

FCT Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh emphasized the right of residents to peaceful protest and assured that measures are in place to ensure safety. The police deployment includes visibility policing, explosive ordinance devices experts, and personnel at strategic locations. Additionally, there will be raids on identified black spots, stop and search operations, vehicular and foot patrols, and coordination with other security agencies.

The police have vowed to resist any form of violent protest and lawlessness. Commissioner Igweh stated that the police would not allow the destruction of public and private properties or loss of lives during the protests. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
