The Federal Government has announced public holidays on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9 and 10, 2024, to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr. The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, conveyed this information in a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Aishetu Ndayako, on Sunday. Tunji-Ojo congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the successful completion of Ramadan and urged them to embrace values such as kindness, love, tolerance, and peace.
In his statement, Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of unity in Nigeria, calling on citizens to work towards peace and harmony. Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu arrived in Lagos on Sunday and was welcomed at the presidential wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other officials. Tinubu's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, stated that Tinubu would observe the end of Ramadan with prayers for Nigeria and with his family.
Ngelale did not specify the exact date of Tinubu’s return but mentioned that the President would continue his official duties during and after the Eid-el-Fitr holidays. Similarly, Vice-President Kashim Shettima arrived in Maiduguri ahead of the Eid-El-Fitr celebration. Security measures have been heightened in Maiduguri and its surroundings in preparation for the festivities, which are expected to occur either on Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on the sighting of the new moon.
