The Federal Government has launched a full investigation into the alleged extortion of ₦5.2 million by personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) from a group of youths in Ekiti State. The investigation follows a viral social media post accusing the officers of extorting the money from young men traveling from Ado-Ekiti to Akure, Ondo State.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, swiftly directed the probe, with his media aide, Alao Babatunde, confirming the development in a statement. Dr. Tunji-Ojo assured the public that any NSCDC personnel found guilty of the misconduct would face legal consequences.

“We will not tolerate any form of misconduct from our security agencies,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized. He further reaffirmed the government's commitment to building a disciplined, professional, and patriotic paramilitary force that serves Nigeria with dignity and respect.

The Minister also promised that justice would be upheld in this case, pledging that the officers responsible would be held accountable for their actions.
