Federal Government

The federal government has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding fairness and inclusivity in national appointments, insisting that all selections are made in strict compliance with the federal character principle. The clarification, issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), comes in response to growing concerns and allegations of lopsidedness in recent federal appointments.

In a statement released on Friday, the OSGF categorically denied these claims, describing them as "unfounded speculations." The statement emphasized that all appointments are made in accordance with Section 14 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as Altered), which mandates the equitable distribution of appointments across the country's various regions.

The government further reassured Nigerians that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains fully committed to national unity and equitable representation across all demographics. “His Excellency believes strongly in the unity of Nigeria and is guided by the ideals of fairness and tenets of justice in all appointments,” the OSGF statement said.

The administration urged citizens to disregard "tendentious and unfounded allegations" circulating on social media and instead rely on verified government channels for accurate information regarding federal appointments.

Reaffirming its stance, the government emphasized its alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda and pledged to continue fostering a united, prosperous, and equitable Nigeria. "All inquiries with respect to this matter can be channeled through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, which is the official custodian of such appointments,” the statement concluded.
