A Federal High Court in Abuja has reaffirmed its order for the arrest and production of former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, in court. The court maintained that its directive, issued on April 17, still stands.
Justice Emeka Nwite, in a ruling on Friday, May 10, expressed disappointment with Bello's failure to appear in court and the alleged obstruction of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in executing the arrest warrant. The judge emphasized that such actions were disrespectful to the court.
Justice Nwite stated that the court would not entertain any applications from Bello's legal team unless the ex-governor appeared in court to answer to the 19-count money laundering charge brought against him by the EFCC.
Furthermore, the judge rejected the request from Bello's lawyer, Abdulwahab Muhammed (SAN), to suspend further proceedings in the case pending the determination of an appeal by the EFCC related to a contempt case before a High Court in Kogi State.
