A Federal High Court in Abuja has upheld the validity of the Labour Party's national convention held on March 27, 2024, in Nnewi, declaring it constitutional and compliant with Nigerian laws. Justice Emeka Nwite issued the ruling, which compels the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the Labour Party's National Working Committee led by Barrister Julius Abure.

In a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday, the party's National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, emphasized the court's affirmation of the convention's legitimacy. This ruling comes after a faction of the party, led by its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Abia State Governor Alex Otti, appointed an interim leadership in Umuahia.
