The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has approved the Kogi State Government’s proposal to build an international airport in Zariagi. This milestone approval, conveyed in a letter dated October 9, 2024, marks a significant advancement in Kogi's infrastructure development, as confirmed by Kogi's Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo.
Fanwo noted the commitment of Governor Usman Ododo’s administration to ensuring the project's completion adheres to strict regulatory standards, emphasizing that the airport will serve as a key transit hub for 10 neighboring states. Strategically located, the airport aims to ease congestion on the Abuja-Lokoja road and reduce pressure on Abuja’s international airport, benefitting both travelers and local communities.
“This project will not only boost Kogi's economy but also create jobs and spotlight the state’s potential on a global scale,” Fanwo stated. He added that the airport would include cargo facilities, a focal point of the project aimed at amplifying trade and logistics.
Fanwo expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Aviation Minister for their support and assured Kogi residents that the government is dedicated to sustainable, high-standard projects to further the state’s progress.
