The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of outstanding 2025 allowances to beneficiaries of the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Programme studying in partner countries abroad.
The development was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Federal Ministry of Education and signed by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade.
According to the ministry, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has successfully transferred the approved funds to Nigerian embassies and missions for immediate payment to eligible students.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, disclosed that the released funds cover 50 per cent of the approved outstanding obligations for 2025, adding that efforts are ongoing to clear the remaining balance.
He explained that the money has already reached the accounts of the various embassies and missions, which are expected to begin disbursing the allowances to beneficiaries without delay.
Alausa also advised students affected by the delay to monitor their bank accounts as payments begin to reflect.

The BEA scholarship programme provides financial support to Nigerian students studying in partner countries under bilateral educational agreements with the Federal Government.
Although the programme has since been discontinued, many beneficiaries had repeatedly complained about delays in payment of allowances, saying the situation exposed them to financial hardship while studying abroad.
The latest release of funds is expected to bring relief to the affected scholars.
The minister said the payment reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to supporting Nigerian students abroad under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that the Federal Government remains committed to fulfilling its obligations to scholars and sustaining policies that promote quality education, student welfare and human capital development.
