FG Orders Direct Oil Revenue Remittance as Disu Confirmed New Police Chief

Major political and economic decisions dominated Monday’s developments, with the Federal Government rolling out a new policy on oil revenue remittance and the Nigeria Police Council confirming a new Inspector-General of Police.

FG Begins Direct Remittance of Oil Revenues

The Federal Government has commenced the direct remittance of oil revenues to the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), in what officials describe as a move to strengthen transparency and accountability.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, said the directive aligns with the President’s order that all petroleum revenues due to the federation must be managed in accordance with constitutional provisions.

The reform is expected to ensure that funds meant for the federal, state and local governments are protected and properly accounted for.

Police Council Confirms Disu as Inspector-General

In a separate development, the Nigeria Police Council confirmed Olatunji Disu as the new Inspector-General of Police, following the exit of Kayode Egbetokun.

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced that the council unanimously endorsed Disu after a meeting at the State House in Abuja.

The confirmation marks a leadership transition at the helm of the Nigeria Police Force.

Wike, Amaechi Clash Over Electoral Act

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accused former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and other opposition figures of double standards over amendments to the Electoral Act.

Wike defended the new 2026 Electoral Act signed by President Tinubu, particularly a clause allowing manual transmission of election results where electronic transmission fails due to poor network coverage.

He alleged that Amaechi had previously opposed the electronic transmission provision during his time in government.

FG Explains February Salary Delay

The Federal Government attributed delays in the payment of February salaries for some workers to a technical glitch in the payroll system.

Officials assured affected employees that efforts were underway to resolve the issue and clear all outstanding payments promptly.

Fresh Strikes Hit Iraq Base

Internationally, fresh strikes were reported on a military base in Iraq housing the Iran-backed group Kataeb Hezbollah.

Sources within the group confirmed casualties following bombings at the Jurf al-Nasr base. The facility has been targeted multiple times amid the escalating Israel–US campaign against Iran.

Iraqi authorities have reiterated their desire to avoid being drawn further into the conflict.

ADC Registration Marred by Fake Entries

Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) raised concerns after its newly launched online membership registration portal was flooded with fake entries.

The party, through its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, had introduced the digital platform as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

However, within 24 hours of launch, several irregular registrations surfaced online, including membership cards bearing the names and images of President Tinubu, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and even former United States President Donald Trump.

The development has raised questions about the integrity of the verification process as political activities intensify ahead of 2027.
