Finidi George Takes Charge at Rivers United

Immediate past Super Eagles’ head coach Finidi George has returned to club management as he was unveiled yesterday as the new head coach of Rivers United. His appointment was finalized after meeting with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, whose state finances the club.

The 53-year-old former Nigeria international takes over from Stanley Eguma, who was sacked towards the end of last season. Finidi is stepping into this role just weeks after resigning as the head coach of the Super Eagles.

Previously, Finidi managed nine-time NPFL champions Enyimba for three years, leading them to a title victory in the 2022/23 NPFL season, while Rivers United finished a disappointing eighth. His successful stint at Enyimba solidified his reputation as a top-tier coach.

Rivers United FC's General Manager, Dr. Okey Kpalukwu, hailed the appointment of the 1994 AFCON winner as a new chapter for the club. Finidi expressed his gratitude, stating, “I am honored to have this opportunity and thank the Sports Commissioner, the General Manager, and the supporters for their confidence. I am committed to working hard and making the team win.”
