Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has been granted a N300 million bail after being arraigned on charges of printing new naira notes without due process. Emefiele pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The arraignment took place before Justice Maryanne Anenih of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama. Emefiele, the sole defendant in the case, was granted bail on the condition that he produces two sureties, each possessing titled property within the Maitama area of the FCT.

Justice Anenih ordered Emefiele to deposit his travel documents with the court and prohibited him from leaving the country without court permission. These conditions mirrored those of a previous bail granted by Justice Hamza Muazu, under whom Emefiele faces another criminal case. The court adjourned the case until May 28 for trial to begin.
