On Wednesday, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello voluntarily honoured an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of fraud and corrupt enrichment during his tenure.
Bello’s media team released a statement, explaining that the former governor made the decision after consulting with his family, legal advisors, and political allies. Despite being declared wanted by the EFCC, the statement emphasized that Bello respects the rule of law and has always adhered to due process, attending all court hearings through his legal representation.

The former governor’s team expressed confidence in his innocence, stating that Bello has "nothing to hide" and is eager to clear his name. They also highlighted his belief in President Bola Tinubu’s anti-corruption initiatives and affirmed that he was the first Kogi governor to implement anti-corruption measures to ensure state resources were used effectively for the people.
Bello was accompanied by several high-profile Nigerians to the EFCC Headquarters, with his team expressing hope that the commission would maintain professionalism and respect his fundamental rights.
