The Forum of Chiefs in Nigeria (FCN) has welcomed the recent court ruling that nullified the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano. The Chiefs lauded the verdict as a triumph of justice, describing it as a victory of light over darkness and truth over falsehood.
Justice Abdullahi Liman of the Federal High Court, Kano, overturned Governor Abba Yusuf's actions taken after the Kano Emirate law was amended on May 23, 2024. Justice Liman criticized the Governor for assenting to the bill and issuing an appointment letter to Sanusi on May 24, despite a court order to maintain the status quo.

The Chiefs emphasized that the ruling reinforces the principles of separation of powers and respect for the judiciary.

The Chiefs urged Governor Abba Yusuf and Sanusi to respect the court's decision and the sanctity of traditional institutions, warning against further illegal actions that could destabilize Kano State.
