The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has established over 200 mobile court operations to prosecute traffic offenders during its Easter special patrol operations, which will run from Thursday through April 23, 2025. This initiative is aimed at ensuring a safe and smooth Easter celebration across Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Olusegun Ogungbemide, Corps Marshal Malam Shehu Mohammed emphasized that the mobile courts were set up as part of an aggressive enforcement strategy to tackle traffic violations during the holiday period. Mohammed stated that a Situation Room has also been set up at the FRSC National Headquarters to monitor the situation, process information, and ensure timely response across the country.
The mobile court operations will target several key offenses, including speeding, dangerous driving, overtaking, lane indiscipline, road obstructions, use of mobile phones while driving, overloading, and violations related to seatbelt and child restraint use. Other offenses include passenger manifest violations, operating mechanically deficient vehicles, and non-compliance with latching and twist-lock regulations.
Mohammed further outlined that the FRSC would collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure effective monitoring and security. These stakeholders include military formations, the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Immigration Service, the NSCDC, the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), state traffic management agencies, ambulance service providers, the National Network on Emergency Rescue Services (NNES), the Federal Road Maintenance Agencies, and the Federal Fire Service.
The Corps Marshal expressed confidence that Nigerians would cooperate with the FRSC and other security agencies during the special operations, noting that volunteers would assist the corps in managing traffic flow and ensuring public safety.
