Fubara Says Rivers Secretariat Complex Will Be Ready by Early 2027

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has said the ongoing reconstruction of the Rivers State Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt will be completed and ready for use by the first quarter of 2027.

The governor made this known on Monday after inspecting the expansive high-rise structures located in the Old GRA area of Port Harcourt.

A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, said Fubara undertook the inspection to personally assess the level of progress made on the project.

Speaking after the tour, the governor expressed satisfaction with the pace of work, particularly the developments inside the complex.

“We just did a tour of the renovation of the Secretariat. I have been seeing the outer part of it wearing a new look, but I wanted to really confirm how much work is going on, most importantly, the inside, and that is what I just went to inspect myself,” Fubara said.

“I think that with the progress of work here, by the grace of God, I believe that by the first quarter of next year, it will be handed over to the government.

“Like I promised, every job that we are handling, we will ensure that we bring them to completion,” he added.

The Rivers State Secretariat Complex was originally constructed in the 1970s shortly after the creation of the state in 1967.

The facility consists of several high-rise buildings, including the 17-storey Point Block, the 10-storey Podium Block, and three additional seven-storey structures known as Blocks A, B and C.

The ongoing renovation is aimed at giving the complex a modern outlook through structural rehabilitation, improved office spaces, upgraded utilities and the installation of modern facilities.

According to the state government, the project is expected to provide a more efficient, technology-driven and conducive working environment for civil servants in the state.
