The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has expressed his lack of surprise over the recent resurgence of crisis within the Enugu State chapter of the party. Addressing stakeholders over the weekend at the party's state secretariat in Enugu, Ganduje, through the Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Emma Eneukwu, asserted that the crisis was instigated by a familiar group known for disrupting the party’s progress in the state.
Last month, some members of the Enugu State executive council suspended the State Chairman, Ugochukwu Agballah, along with three other executive members—Chief Augustine Alumonah, Emeka Eze, and Mr. Jude Aniogbo—over allegations of embezzlement and abuse of office. However, Ganduje, through Eneukwu, emphasized that the APC's national leadership does not recognize any faction in Enugu and stands firmly behind Agballah as the legitimate state chairman.
Ganduje stated, “There’s no faction in Enugu APC... The national chairman said I should tell you that the APC national secretariat does not know any other chairman in Enugu State except Ugochukwu Agballah.” He added that the national leadership is committed to addressing the recurring issues and ensuring the party's stability in Enugu.
The statement came after an expanded meeting of the party, during which 20 party leaders were suspended for gross misconduct after failing to appear before the Disciplinary Committee. The suspended members include Publicity Secretary Michael Ezeanyanwu and Zonal Chairman West Alphonsus Nwafor.
Despite the ongoing challenges, Ganduje urged party members to remain focused and not be distracted by the crisis, which he suggested is orchestrated to hinder the party’s success in future elections.
